The Sports Locker

Last updated: 9 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how The Sports Locker collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal data when you use our app and related services. Please read it alongside our Terms and Conditions.

1. Who We Are

The Sports Locker ("we," "us," or "our") is a marketplace operated by The Sports Locker Ltd, a company registered in Scotland with company number SC890755. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, The Sports Locker Ltd is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

Contact us at customersupport@thesportslocker.co.uk or by post at The Sports Locker Ltd, 61 Bridge Street, Kington, HR5 3DJ, United Kingdom.

2. The Personal Data We Collect

Information you give us:

  • Account details — name, email address, password, and (if provided) phone number.
  • Profile and Listing information — items you list, descriptions, photographs, and prices.
  • Communications — messages you send to other users and any correspondence with us.
  • Transaction arrangements — collection or delivery details you agree with another user.

Information we collect automatically:

  • Usage data — how you interact with the App, the pages or listings you view.
  • Device and technical data — device type, operating system, app version.
  • Approximate location — where you enable location services, used only to show an approximate area for listings.

We do not intentionally collect special category data. Please do not include sensitive personal information in listings or messages.

2.1 Location Services

Location services are optional. Where enabled, we use your location only to help connect buyers and sellers who are near one another. We display only an approximate area within roughly a five-mile radius of your actual position — never your precise location or address.

How we use your location:

  • Map view — when you open the map, we use your approximate location to centre the map and show sports gear listings near you. For example, if you are in Manchester, the map will display items listed within your surrounding area so you can find gear to collect locally.
  • Creating a listing — when you list an item for sale or trade, we use your approximate location to place a marker on the map so nearby buyers can find it. We never reveal your exact address — only an approximate area.
  • Filtering results — when browsing, we use your approximate location to sort and filter listings by distance, so the closest items appear first.

You can deny location access at any time; the app will continue to work, but will not be able to show nearby listings or centre the map on your position.

2.2 Camera Access

Camera access is optional. Where enabled, we use the camera only to let you take photographs directly within the app. We do not access your camera at any other time.

How we use your camera:

  • Listing photos — when you create or edit a listing for sports gear, you can use the camera to take photos of the item (for example, photographing a pair of football boots you want to sell). These photos are uploaded to your listing so buyers can see the condition of the item.
  • Profile photo — when you edit your profile, you can use the camera to take a profile picture that is displayed to other users on your seller profile.

Photos taken with the camera are used solely for the listing or profile you are creating. You can deny camera access at any time; you will still be able to select existing photos from your device's photo library instead.

2.3 Photo Library Access

Photo library access is optional. Where enabled, we use your photo library only to let you select existing photos to attach to your listings or profile. We do not access, scan, or upload photos from your library at any other time.

How we use your photo library:

  • Listing photos — when you create or edit a listing, you can select photos of the item from your library (for example, choosing a saved photo of a tennis racket you want to sell). Only the photos you explicitly select are uploaded to your listing.
  • Profile photo — when you edit your profile, you can select an existing photo from your library to use as your profile picture.

You can deny photo library access at any time; you will still be able to take new photos using the camera instead.

3. How and Why We Use Your Data

We use your personal data to operate the App, connect buyers and sellers, keep the platform safe, comply with legal obligations, and improve our service. Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether those interests are overridden by your rights, and you have the right to object.

4. Data Shared Between Users

When you arrange or complete a transaction, you may share information such as your name, contact details, and a meeting or delivery location with another user. You must use another user's personal data only to complete the relevant transaction — not for marketing or any unrelated purpose.

5. Who Else We Share Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with:

  • Service providers — hosting, cloud storage, analytics, and customer support providers.
  • Professional advisers — legal and accounting advisers where necessary.
  • Law enforcement and authorities — where required by law, or to prevent fraud or unlawful activity.
  • Successors — if our business is reorganised, sold, or transferred.

6. International Transfers

We aim to store and process personal data within the UK. Where a provider processes data outside the UK, we take steps to ensure it receives appropriate protection under UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement.

7. How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain account data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to handle disputes, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations. We then delete or anonymise it.

8. Your Rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • be informed about how we use your data;
  • access a copy of the data we hold about you;
  • rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • erasure (the "right to be forgotten") in certain circumstances;
  • restrict processing in certain circumstances;
  • data portability;
  • object to processing based on our legitimate interests; and
  • rights relating to automated decision-making (we do not currently make solely automated decisions about you).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at customersupport@thesportslocker.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

9. Children

The App is not intended for use by anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

10. How We Protect Your Data

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No system is completely secure — please keep your account credentials confidential and be cautious about the personal information you share with other users.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on the App and change the "Last updated" date. Where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to notify you.

12. Complaints and Contact

If you have a concern about how we handle your personal data, please contact us first at customersupport@thesportslocker.co.uk.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
